About Me

I’m a Kiwi, living in Bulgaria, a country I fell in love with on my first visit back in 1994.  I’ve lived here off and on since emigrating to Europe in 1999. Before heading off to the Old Continent, I was a lawyer in Auckland, including 10 and a half years as a commercial law partner in Russell McVeagh McKenzie Bartleet & Co (as it then was) – aka “the Factory”.  I followed this with some three years practising business and commercial law on my own account.  My time in legal practice in NZ was preceded by some 13 years in the NZ Police, of which eight as a legal adviser in the Legal Section, at National HQ and later in Auckland.

I’ve always been fond of writing and maintain an abiding interest in a wide range of public affairs, with a focus on – but not exclusively – the law in all its manifestations.

I’m proud to have been born and bred in one of the greatest little countries on the planet but I’ve also formed indelible ties with one of the most intriguing – and troubled – little countries here in the Balkans. The similarities and contrasts between New Zealand and Bulgaria remain a source of constant fascination.

All the best.
